Courses for all adults students new to Vipassana
Dhamma Santi offers different residential courses for adults. The most common is the 10-Day course – an introductory course to Vipassana meditation for new students as well as old students, where the technique is taught step-by-step each day.
You will receive regular instruction every day. Teachers will also meet with you in small groups to see if you are practicing proper technique. There will be other opportunities to communicate with the teachers personally if you wish. Every night you will see a 1 hour video presentation by our late teacher, S. N. Goenka explaining the practice.
On Day 10, you will learn a new meditation on Mettā, kindness, and then the rule of silence will end. Then you will have time to talk to the people with whom you spent the last 9 nine days in silence.
Around 6:40 on the 11th, after the final lecture, the course is officially finished. Breakfast is offered and students take the time to clean their rooms and help prepare the center for the next group of students.
Because the center is maintained by volunteers, this help you give at the end of the course is greatly appreciated. Most of you will have left the center around 9:30 am.
This meditation course is a very serious commitment. If you feel that you are really ready to take this course, work diligently on the course and follow the instructions carefully, you will gain a great gift of wisdom. If you keep your meditation practice, it will be a gem and a haven for you the rest of your life.
A simple vegetarian diet is offered to all courses, especially designed to meet the needs of most students. Every morning, oatmeal, cereals, and toast are served, as well as fresh fruit compote. Lunch consists of rice and vegetables and proteins like tofu, lentils or beans. This meal is served with a salad and seasoning such as grated carrots and beets, chickpeas, sunflower seeds, raisins. A light snack of fruit and tea is served at 17:00.
We are sorry but we are unable to accommodate special requests for food in addition to the menu offered. However, if you have dietary needs because of a clinically diagnosed condition such as diabetes or pregnancy, please fully disclose your situation on your application form so we can see if we can meet your needs. Your cooperation in this area is greatly appreciated.
All courses are run solely on a donation basis. All expenses are met by donations from those who, having completed a course and experienced the benefits of Vipassana, wish to give others the same opportunity. Neither the Teacher nor the assistant teachers receive remuneration; they and those who serve the courses volunteer their time. Thus Vipassana is offered free from commercialisation. Old student may give their donation in the Old Student pages.
